The 3 P’s of Project Success that Launched a Regional WIL Hub During Challenging Times

North Island College and Vancouver Island University partnered to create a regional hub, Vancouver Island Work-Integrated Learning (VIWIL).

In our region, 98% of employers have fewer than 100 employees. SMEs are often challenged in providing WIL opportunities due to a lack of awareness of potential benefits, physical space, limited resources to engage with our institutional processes and platforms and to fully mentor and integrate student learning in the workplace.

The VIWIL partnership is focused primarily on enhancing capacity by improving access across the region for employer engagement & recruitment, and creating strategic system support with a single point of entry to post opportunities easily for students at both institutions. The partnership between NIC and VIU is a significant step toward a system approach that models the strength of collective effort, sharing of resources and collaborative ethos that results in greater benefit and opportunity for both students and WIL host organizations.

Key Learning Objectives:

The key learning objectives of this presentation will be focused on intentionally tapping into and harnessing the power of 3 for successful project completion. These 3 pillars that were used throughout the project inception and implementation can be applied to any project across all decanal areas and disciplines.
