Transformative Nursing (BSN) Practice Education and Transition Model
This is a provincial project led by the Ministry of Health (MoH), Nursing Policy Secretariat (NPS) in partnership with the Nursing Education Planning Council (NEPC) which reports to the Planning Board for Health and Medical Education. The NEPC is co-chaired by the MoH, NPS and the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Training. NEPC membership: NECBC, Deans and Directors, Health Authorities, Chief Nursing Officer (FNHA), Regulatory College, Nurses Union and Association.
• Essential to addressing current and future healthcare/population needs and retaining the new graduate (NG) workforce is the implementation of a NG transition model and learning pathways.
- Learning Pathways: BSN nursing students enter a learning pathway in their final practicum that aligns with their practice area of interest. Students are supported by dedicated resources in clinical settings.
- Provincial New Graduate Transition (NGT) Program: Transition support begins in the final education year, and continues through NG transition and up to 12 months post hire.
Key Learning Objectives:
- Provide an overview of the history of the BSN Model project e.g. need, partners and development.
- Highlight key aspects of the Learning Pathway Framework and New Graduate Transition Framework.
- Discuss key learnings to date in implementing student learning pathways and the New Graduate Nursing Transition Program.
