Expanding Work-Integrated Learning Opportunities with an Accessibility Approach

The intent of this project was to build an evidenced-based approach that validates the need for targeted on-going support for students with disabilities (SWD) in particular to engage with WIL programming. This idea was based on literature reviews that highlight the barriers that are unique to SWD, validating the benefits that such a role could provide to the student experience. This pilot was led by a project lead who assumed the role of an Accessibility Coordinator within WIL and the project approached three distinct target audiences – Students, Staff and Employers. This with a view that by supporting and educating all members of the engagement triad, the more successful we can be at supporting our students. This presentation will share key findings from the project as well as an overview of the resources that were created.

Key Learning Objectives:

Access resources for working with students with disabilities
Learn about success and challenges in remote relationships with students with disabilities
