Developing International Work Opportunities: Innovating a Non-STEM Stream for the Canada Japan Co-op Program

The Canada Japan Co-op Program (CJCP) was established in 1991 as a 3-year pilot project with funding from the Government of Canada to develop a pool of young Canadians with hands-on experience in Japanese industries. Each year the program sends between 40-60 students to Japan to work mainly in the STEM sectors.

This project’s objective is to develop an Arts and Business stream in the Canada-Japan Co-op Program in order to provide international work terms in the Arts, Culture, and Tourism sectors that will result in new co-op opportunities for students in Humanities, Social Sciences, Creative and Performing Arts, Tourism and Business in 2022 onwards.

By attending this session, participants will:

  • Learn about the initiative in developing international co-op opportunities for students in Humanities, Social Sciences, Creative and Performing Arts, Tourism and Business
  • Understand the Program’s unique, national consortium approach to working with employers in Japan and students going to Japan for co-op terms
  • Explore creative ways to increase international student mobility in your own Co-op Program
