Bridging Diverse Bodies of Knowledge and Practice in WIL: Forging a WIL Community of Practice
Through this project, we demonstrate how WIL types intersect and diverge (considering pedagogy, relationships, practices, systems, tools and resources). Secondly, we highlight pathways and modes of participation for community partners (across the nine types). Thirdly, we use this process of exploration to further a WIL Community of Practice at UVic that includes the full spectrum of WIL. To do so, we conducted an environmental scan of how other institutions integrate the WIL types, reviewed relevant literature and conducted interviews and focus group with WIL colleagues at UVic. Outputs from the project include resource documents, workshops, an academic article, and a storied video that conveys the nine WIL types.
Key Learning Objectives:
Identify how your WIL work intersects and diverges from the practices, systems and resources of other WIL types
Identify at least one new practice, system or resource (from a different type to WIL than the one you most work within) that you would like to incorporate into your work.
