Stepping up WIL in a College Context
The majority of VCC applied programs include highly-regarded, curricular-based WIL (work experience, apprenticeship, and clinical placements). However, they are designed and delivered at the program-level, with no coordination from a WIL office or Career Centre. This project allowed VCC to strategically enhance this WIL model at the institutional level. Sub-projects included an institutional environmental WIL scan, installation of a WIL management platform, development of WIL guiding principles and frameworks, employer engagement and supporting Students with Disabilities with inclusive hiring methods and standards.
Key Learning Objectives:
- Share the challenges with defining WIL and establishing a WIL framework in a distributed, applied skills and curriculum-based WIL delivery model.
- Share key learnings that encourage advancement of WIL in a distributed delivery model.
- Share results of the newly developed VCC Inclusive Hiring guide, developed in partnership with Open Door Group (WorkBC)
