Building Faculty Capacity in Curricular WIL for Under-Represented Disciplines

This project focused on embedding curricular WIL into upper and lower level required courses in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, a faculty with historically few curricular WIL opportunities for students. The project involved a WIL project team mentoring 13 faculty members to (re)design 32 undergraduate courses to included an embedded curricular WIL component across an academic semester. In this presentation, we outline the approach we took to building capacity among the 13 faculty members and the successes and challenges we encountered in the process.

Key Learning Objectives:

Synthesizing key challenges to embedding curricular WIL in under represented program areas
Outlining a structured approach to building faculty capacity to embedded curricula WIL into academic courses
Identifying best practices in supporting faculty in undertaking WIL course (re)design
Identifying challenges in embedding curricula WIL into non traditional WIL disciplinary areas.
