AI in the workforce: Balancing opportunities and challenges in the evolving job market
Karae (pronounced car-A) White currently serves the students at the University of Victoria as a Career Educator. She primarily supports students in Engineering and Computer Science, teaching them to write resumes, look for jobs, and interview for employment. She is a Certified Career Development Practitioner, who achieved her Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta, Electronic Career Coach Certification, and has started her Masters in Instructional Design at Athabasca University. In her 20+ years of working as a Career Practitioner and owning Morgan Ebbett Career Services, Karae has provided 1 on 1 career and business coaching, designed curriculum, and delivered educational presentations across the country. Karae is driven to support people in finding their calling, often by facilitating career transitions. Lately, she has been implementing this skill set by focusing on the fourth industrial revolution, and the impact AI and machine learning will have on our careers. She wants people to be able to successfully navigate the changing landscape of employment.

Advocating for the ethical and responsible use of GenAI Tools for WIL practitioners
Dr. Jenny (Jing) Mao is a Learning Transformation Specialist and works in the Center for Learning Transformation at Coast Mountain College (CMTN), specializing in Work-Integrated Learning (WIL). She holds a PhD in Education from the University of Victoria and has extensive experience in academic and career advising within post-secondary and multicultural settings.

Practical applications of GenAI tools for developing teaching materials from a pedagogical perspective
Gwen Nguyen (she/her) is an advisor for the learning and teaching team at BCcampus. Prior to joining BCcampus, Gwen worked as a learning experience designer at the University of Victoria, where she provided support to educators in developing and delivering courses across various modalities including face-to-face, hybrid, and online formats. Her professional background also includes experience as a university lecturer and researcher at both the University of Victoria and the Kanazawa Institute of Technology in Japan. Gwen holds a PhD in education studies from the University of Victoria and a Master of Arts in applied linguistics from Saint Michael’s College. Her research interests include poetry inquiry as a reflection practice in education, digital pedagogies in higher education, and participatory action research. Recently, Gwen has developed a keen interest in exploring pedagogical strategies that ethically and creatively integrate AI into teaching and learning environments. Gwen also brings valuable experience in navigating positionality as both an instructor and researcher.
