The Interior & Northern Work Integrated Learning Initiative, a partnership between Thompson Rivers University (TRU), the University of British Columbia Okanagan (UBCO), and University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC), engages emerging student talent with employment opportunities that support the changing needs and development of small and medium sized organizations.

Throughout the initiative the team explored the barriers and challenges that small and medium sized organizations face when it comes to engaging student talent, and developed useful resources and a website hub to help support and address these challenges. The INWIL resource hub aims to introduce small and medium sized organizations to WIL, engage students in regional opportunities, as well as support continued relationship development between community partners and post secondary institutions in the region into the future.

Key Learning Objectives:

  • Key barriers and challenges that small and medium sized employers in the Interior & Northern regions of BC face when it comes to hiring a student through work-integrated learning pathways
  • Tools and resources that are available to assist in addressing these challenges
  • How to post an opportunity and gain access to student talent across the three institutions within the initiative (UBCO, UNBC, TRU)
  • How the initiative has been raising awareness of work-integrated learning through industry and community partnerships throughout the Interior & Northern regions of BC
