Jennie is currently working as a Co-op Coordinator at the University of Victoria and is our new ACE-WIL President. She has been volunteering for ACE-WIL for the last 14 years both as a Member and Co-Chair of the Pro-D Committee and has helped plan several conferences. Three words Jennie’s co-workers would use to describe her are energetic, dedicated and loud!

Jennie loves her job because she gets to learn something new (usually lots of somethings!) every single day. She also really enjoys the people she gets to work with, both at UVic, as well as within ACE-WIL and nationally. Stepping into a leadership role, Jennie believes leadership is something you demonstrate, not a title. For her, demonstrating leadership means having clear goals, and the ability to inspire other people to work with you to achieve them.

On a personal note, Jennie has lived in 6 out of 10 provinces in Canada, and 1 territory: Newfoundland, New Brunswick, Quebec, Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, and Nunavut. She has 2 small children, which makes leisure time a very distant memory! But when she does have some time, she loves to read – legal thrillers and true crime are her jam.

What’s Jennie’s best piece of career advice she’s been given? There’s no excuse to be bored at work. If you don’t have a pressing task or priority, look for things that need to be done, check to see if your teammates need assistance. She received this advice at one of her first jobs when she was 16 and has carried it forward throughout her whole career. Thanks for sharing Jennie!
