The association originated as a BC Chapter of CAFCE (formerly known as the Canadian Association for Co-operative Education and now called CEWIL- Co-operative Education and Work-Integrated Learning) and incorporated into its own society in January 1993 under the BC Society Act. At that time our name was ACE BC/Yukon and only represented cooperative education programs.
Our mandate was expanded to represent many different forms of work-integrated learning and therefore our name changed to ACE-WIL BC/Yukon to better reflect this expansion. Currently, ACE-WIL represents 25 public post-secondary institutions, with over 200 members working with over 300 WIL programs. The membership numbers continue to grow as the WIL membership grows and diversifies.
