ACE-WIL BC PD and Networking Session:
'NUDGING’ WIL STUDENTS THROUGH STICKY SPOTS
Are you looking to boost engagement among your students before, during and after their WIL experiences? Do you want to help them to make the choices that you know will improve their WIL experiences? The ACE-WIL BC/Yukon Research Committee developed a toolkit to help WIL practitioners’ facilitate an enriched student experience and reduce the impact of common challenges encountered during the job search process and beyond.
In the session, you will:
- Learn more about the research project
- Explore how you can apply nudges in your WIL setting
- Workshop evaluation methods of the suggested interventions with fellow practitioners
The ACE-WIL BC/Yukon Research Committee developed this toolkit to help WIL practitioners’ facilitate an enriched WIL student experience and reduce the impact of common challenges encountered during the job search process and beyond.
The toolkit was motivated by the fact that 'nudging' has demonstrated positive results by successfully increasing the uptake of post-secondary work placements (Fowlie et al., 2020). Inspired by how behavioural insights (BI) influence actions and outcomes without awareness of the exposure to the stimulus, most nudges apply priming and other related cognitive biases and heuristics, to make it easier for students to make good choices. MORE ABOUT THE PRESENTER: Cait Cameron is the research project lead with steering from the ACE-WIL BC/Yukon Research Committee. She holds an MA in Public Policy and Global Affairs, and a BA in Philosophy from UBC. Currently, Cait works as the St'át'imc Chiefs Council’s Policy Advisor in Lillooet, BC. She is passionate about the application of Behavioural Insights to address practical issues and always enjoys a collaborative learning setting. REGIONAL VIEWING PARTIES ACROSS BC Participating in a viewing party is a great way to catch up in-person with your WIL colleagues before, during and after the PD session. The PD Committee will provide viewing party hosts with some tips and tricks that we learned from the May event to help make your viewing party a success!
