President's Message

Greetings ACE-WIL Membership,

As National Volunteer Week (NVW) this year is from April 16-22, I want to make sure to take this time to thank all our ACE-WIL volunteers—our members who have stepped forward to participate in our standing committees, conference committee, and ACE-WIL Board.

In this e-newsletter (check the last item), we've put together a list of all our volunteers to recognize them. Please take a few moments to read through this list and help us celebrate our ACE-WIL volunteers.

While I want to particularly thank all those currently volunteering for our organization, I also want to extend my thanks to those who have volunteered for ACE-WIL in the past. ACE-WIL celebrates its 30th anniversary this year as our own society, first as the Association of Co-operative Education BC/Yukon (ACE) and now as ACE-WIL. As a volunteer organization, I can truly say that our organization would not exist without all your efforts. It's because of all our volunteers that ACE-WIL has been able to keep our community connected and do so with limited resources. Thank you all for investing in our community and our common goals.

The theme for NVW 2023 is "Volunteering Weaves us Together". As stated on Volunteer Canada's website, "Like each individual thread makes weaving stronger, every volunteer's experience, perspective, and abilities add to our collective resilience. Woven together from coast to coast to coast, volunteering reinforces our ability to grow, thrive, and create change within our community, province, and country."

Through my own volunteering with ACE-WIL, I've appreciated contributing my interests and skills with our association, connecting with and learning from other WIL practitioners across our province, and gaining new skills through opportunities outside of my regular work.

Although we are always looking for members who are interested in getting involved with our committees, boards, and conferences, we are also currently looking at new and diverse ways for members to get involved with ACE-WIL based on their own interest, goals, skills, and schedule. If you have ideas for ways you'd like to contribute to our community as a volunteer, please do connect with me. I'd love to hear from you!

To all our ACE-WIL volunteers, for your generosity and dedication in lending your time, energy, and skills to our organization, an immense thank you!

-Anna

Industry Partner of the Year 2022 Award Winner

The Awards Committee is very pleased to announce the recipient for the 2022 Industry Partner of the Year Award. A number of strong recommendations were submitted but after narrowing down the choices the committee selected Bonnie Burnside and the Downtown Surrey Business Improvement Association. Thank you to SFU for the nomination.

Humans of ACE - Meet Chelsey Evans

Written by: Chelsey Evans

In our work, we have the privilege of regularly talking to students about their career journeys. However, it’s less often that we get to reflect on our own career journeys, so when I was invited to be part of the Humans of ACE project, I gladly accepted. As you will see, my career path has taken a bit of a circuitous route…
