President's Message

Greetings ACE-WIL Membership,

Greetings, everyone! I can't help feeling that spring is in the air. The days are slowly lengthening and, in some places, flowers are starting to pop out of the ground. More than a month into the term, I'm feeling fully in the swing of things with renewed energy.

ACE-WIL just had our first town hall of the new year on February 8. For those not able to make it, the session was recorded and available here. Apart from reviewing the main themes of the 46 Phase II BC Co-op and Work-Integrated Learning (COWIL) Initiative Projects, we were able to take part in a self-location activity and connect with others through small breakout rooms. I always enjoy meeting new members through these opportunities as well as reconnecting with those of you I already know!

Speaking of meeting new members, I had the chance last fall to meet the subject of our Humans of ACE Profile in this issue, Alon Eisenstein. I’m delighting that you'll all get to learn more about Alon through this profile.

The town hall was a nice teaser for our upcoming spring professional development events. The theme for our PD this year is Reset, Refresh, Reimagine. I hope you'll all save the dates to join us for these events. I know I'm looking forward to a deeper dive into the Indigenous Resource Hub project coming up on March 9!

Best wishes to you all,

Anna Jubilo (She/Her/Hers)

ACE-WIL Spring PD Event Save the Dates

March 9 and May 4, 2022

The ACE-WIL Professional Development Committee is pleased to announce this year’s learning and development theme: RESET, REFRESH, REIMAGINE

As we approach spring 2022, our world has been turned upside down through the various stages of the global pandemic and many of us are feeling tired. We have endured pandemic pivots at our post-secondary institutions and the speed of innovation has been mind boggling. It wasn’t that long ago when the ACE-WIL PD Committee planned all events in-person as remote PD was not part of our ecosystem. How things have changed!

Collectively, our membership has supported each other to adapt and thrive during a very stressful time. Following on the heals of the successful ACE-WIL Symposium and the amazing outcomes of all COWIL projects, our membership is well situated to embrace 2022 as a year to RESET, REFRESH and REIMAGINE within our collective WIL learning and development space.

We hope you will join us for these two upcoming spring PD opportunities designed to support learning and engagement! Don’t miss out!

Humans of ACE - An Interview with Alon Eisenstein

I met up with Alon Eisenstein, one of our newest ACE-WIL members, at his home in Kelowna, to learn more about his interest in Work-Integrated Learning (WIL). The following is an excerpt from our interview.

Me: Alon, let me start by welcoming you to ACE-WIL.
Alon: Thank you. I’m really excited to join ACE-WIL. I really look forward to meeting more of the members. If there’s one good thing that came out of the pandemic, is the fact that people are way more comfortable meeting and connecting virtually, so I hope I get to meet people from all across BC and Yukon.
