President's Message

Season’s Greetings,

In reflecting on this past year, I am inspired and delighted at how our community has come together to encourage each other, share knowledge, and work together to face the challenges this year has brought. As we wind down this very different Fall term, I hope you all have a chance to rest and recharge before we head back to our virtual campuses in the new year.

As some of you may have noticed, we recently changed our website address. We are excited to have launched our new, more inclusive URL: https://acewilbc.ca/. 2021 also promises to bring lots of exciting initiatives. In the spring term, ACE-WIL will once again be partnering with BC Campus to offer a monthly Town Hall to share news and opportunities for collaboration. Our provincially funded projects will be wrapping up and symposia are currently being planned for May and Fall 2021. In May we will also vote in our new board of directors for ACE-WIL, and I will hand over the reigns as your President after a very busy, fun, and fulfilling two-year term.

It has been quite the year, and we have a lot to be proud of and a lot of work still to do. Thank all of you for the time and commitment you put in to this work, and an extra thank you to our board of directors and committee volunteers who have done so much to keep us connected through this virtual environment.

Best wishes for a restful and lovely holiday season.

Warm regards,
Jennie

Nominate your Students for the ACE-WIL Student of the Year Awards

ACE-WIL BC /Yukon is looking to recognize students that participated in work-integrated learning (WIL) and you can help! The four awards recognize a college and a university student participating in co-operative education, and a college and a university student participating in other forms of work-integrated learning. Each of the four winning students, their institutions, and partner organizations will receive provincial recognition. Each winning student will receive a $500 cash award.

An ACE-WIL BC/Yukon institutional member may nominate one (1) candidate per award type (Co-op or Other Forms of WIL) with the support of the host organization/employer and approval of the student. Visit our website for more information and to download the application package.

We’ve set up a new YouTube channel for ACE-WIL! We have two videos there now and expect to see more videos added in the coming months.

We’d LOVE to have a custom YouTube URL for ACE-WIL, but need 100 subscribers before we can do that. While you’re relaxing over the holidays and getting lost down the YouTube rabbit hole, pop over to our channel and subscribe to help us reach our goal.

Humans of ACE-WIL: Meet Brandy Welles

Meet Brandy Welles
For this month’s Humans of Ace blog, we spoke to Brandy Welles, co-op coordinator with the Arts and Social Sciences co-op program at Simon Fraser University. Brandy rejoined SFU last year after having previously worked at SFU and UBC in work integrated learning roles, and also has extensive communications experience in the private sector. Helping students and developing new work integrated opportunities are just a couple of Brandy’s passions, and she was happy to share a few of her insights.
